I do strength and endurance training. My goal is to be fit and achieve my outdoor goals: bike more considerable lengths, paddle longer, climb higher. I also do linguistic workout. To have better relationships in private and work life. To get promotions and salary increases. To do with time more things which I enjoy for better money. My Linguistic Workout is the core of DSR Rejection Coaching project.
My linguistic workout is worthwhile. So you can ask. What is in my linguistic workout?
Since I started my adventure with communication, I have been exercising with different communication models.
But above all of them, the one was like a boomerang. No matter how many times I threw it away, it returned after some time. Its name is Sleight of Mouth.
And it is about changing other people opinions, and beliefs with some new linguistic patterns weaved into everyday conversation.
How do I do my linguistic workout?
- I have my “Communication Journal”, where I note down observations: how people talk, how I talk, what they say. And when (situation description). I listen carefully to what people around me are saying. And I am noting this down. The reason for this is simply – usually, at the beginning of your training, when you hear something you would like to change, you don’t have time to work on this. You know – conversations are usually dynamic. So I note it down to work on this later when I have time for this.
- When I listen to people (and myself), I am looking for the sequence: cause -> effect = meaning. People believe (I am not saying if their beliefs are right or wrong – this is a subjective thing) in some causalities and attach to everything meanings. This is how the human mind works. We have to label everything.
- At least once (usually more) per weak, I sit down and work on noted sequences of cause -> effect = meaning. I am working on them with 18 different patterns. I am publishing them once per week for you in DSR Rejection Coaching Newsletter.
- If I can, I work out with a partner. First, each of us prepares an argument (complaint, not useful belief, etc.). Then I am tweaking their argument with Sleight of Mouth patterns (and they with mine). And then, we share what we created (usually written down) to get feedback. This part is very useful because different people have different social situations and very often, what they hear, is different from what you hear in your life. That way, I can exercise and prepare myself for new situations. Here, you will find a description of the exercises.
There are more tips for self-training at home, which I described in my book DSR: Mastering Communication, but in the case of this project, these are the most important ones.
Having a healthy, attractive and full of energy body is a great thing. A physical workout is crucial in achieving this.
But from my experience: better projects, more money, better relationships – all this come from a smooth talk. From your capability to make people trust you and follow your suggestions. Making them say “yes” more than saying “no”.
